Can real shields be sent in the post for Shield winners ?

Now I think about it.... a real Racing King trophy would look pretty sweet on my bookshelf +1 Amazing idea!!

This player needs to be investigated for rating manipulation. He has never played a rated live game, only plays 1500? new players or less in correspondence. Nobody > 1500 in close go 100 games with an established rating. Out of nearly 100 games, a history of only playing new players who have never played RK. Timid has never play for a Shield. Never posts a seek, but sends pm's to new sign-ups to play a game of RK in correspondence only. Most timout in <5 moves or never make a move. A most blatant display of rating manipulation. Why such players are permitted to abuse the system is a head scratcher.

This addresses a point made. Unfortunately, there are people who will abuse the system, a small minority to be sure. But give a Shield to a few who would not return it, display it in their profile, can only lead to unwanted problems.
First off; if Lichess ever did decide to do such a thing it would need to be something that would not need to be returned. You can get little trophies made for next to nothing if you buy them in bulk. Only issue would be having a players name and month on there; as the engraving would probably cost more than the trophy itself.

Would want to buy the trophies...probably 150 of them and just have them basic. IE
2018 January Blitz Shield

Hell Wouldnt even really need to be a actual trophy. A Small piece of metal in the shape of a shield would do nicely.

Wouldnt cost more than 2-3 USD each to have made if purchasing in bulk quantity.
Probably much lower than that.

Addresses could be a issue; but I cant imagine anyone would mind giving out a addy actually to lichess. If so; get it sent to a PO Box or your work or your friend or your x wife.

@mdinnerspace
No; the headscratcher is why the system is set up in a manner that makes it so easy to manipulate.

I and many others have inquired why in blue blazes correpondence games are counted towards variant ratings.

There is absolutely no logical reason that they should be.

I can't blame him for doing it; as one of the top 10 (at least last time I looked...he was #1 or 2) has played absolutely nothing but correspondence in a similar fashion.

If you cant beat em...join em I guess. Lichess needs to fix this stuff; rather than people getting flack for taking advantage of a exploit that is widely known.

Its also a headscratcher why you have such a hardon for @NeverBeenTimid
It seems like anytime I see a post by 'him' a couple posts away hootin bout something like a dog and the post man.

Lastly; I assume @mdinnerspace is a alternate account?
You literally have more forum posts than chess games. 1500 to around 1200 lel.

Dun want us seeing your game record and comin to similar conclusions?

:O
I have one account.
Take it or leave it.
Others here openly admit to multi-accounting, I have no need nor desire to participate in such shenanigans. It's for kids. I'm a little older.

Feel free to review my correspondence games. A few are rather entertaining, win or lose.
I suck under time pressure, but play 10/0 anyway. Give me a moments time to think... game on!

And no. I do not agree. I do blame members who abuse the system. Just because the site allows it by not enforcing chess protocol, is no reason to accept it.
@mdinnerspace
So..... you log on to a CHESS Website basically every single day to chat in the forums ....and play MAYBE 4 or 5 games per month?

Alrighty then.

Yep; no need or desire to participate in such shennigans as multiaccounts. Those are for kids.
You are a little older so you participate in a whole different set of shennigans; where we spend loads of time on a chess website with no intention of playing chess.

I see said the blind man

Woulda been so much more plausible to just say; yeh; this is my forum account. I dont want people buggin me / blockin me / targeting me bc of something I said in the forums

But; you went with the truth and welp; I dont understand it but I dont need to. To each their own; you do you :O

You're uninformed Dolla.
I have between 5-10 correspondence games going daily.
Not played rapid lately because of internet issues.
20 moves a day in correspondence is NOT remotely compared to your statement of I play only 4-5 games a month. Now, please get some measure of sensibility.
1 year +
(950 rapid and 250+ correspondence) is hardly not playing any chess.
@mdinnerspace IC I apologize then for making assumptions.
Didnt think to look at correspondence; just looked at # of games and a few of your blitz games showing them months apart. Apologies for the misconception :) <3
Hi all

I must admit - two pretty gigantic issues raised by this post yesterday - expense and also address. So it is pretty impractical as it stands right now. I think it is okay for Youtube partners because Youtube sends to a verified address which you need to give to Youtube, so for Youtube it makes more practical sense.

On this site, I think the only way for marathon or other winners is to buy their awards from say Amazon themselves. This would be much cheaper and safer implementation here. I think a tournament prize winner could perhaps be given the URL and the engraving instructions for the Amazon ID, and it is up to them if they want to buy it from Amazon.

I don't know if this is possible or there are companies on Amazon that do engraving services, but imagine this - you win a Shield tournament, and then you get an auto-message from the site about the Amazon URL and the engraving instructions to give, and you have the option then of buying the right medal from Amazon.

This may be an interesting work-around. It wouldn't cost the site anything, and no one has to give away any sensitive details.

Now say the shield - this gets increasingly engraved each month by the new winner name. It might have to go up a size occasionally to accommodate the potentially hundreds of names in the future. Or maybe just have that person's name and the URL to past winners on the physical shield trophy.

But other one-off winners like Marathon winners are fixed sized medals with just a simpler engraving procedure of a single name for that year.

Edit: Eg. this company on Amazon which does free engraving:
