I support guys.I like old view of the site more than now
Okay. Lots of people like the old menu better than the little line thingy now. I admit I like the menu better too but do we really have to get too upset about? Instead we can ask them too put up some type of voting thing and vote whether we want the menu or... this and then they can either keep it the same or change it according to the votes. Other wise we could have an option whether or not you want this or the menu. Maybe they'll listen to us more if we approach in well... a more calm matter.
A bit of a derail, but: static_shadow, you do realize that "weed" is not an objective, scientific category, right? "Weed" basically means "any plant we don't like in this particular context" which is inherently a subjective value judgment.
Although she writes good novels, in the sense that she's good at fleshing out her personal perspective and presenting it as objective truth through fiction, Ayn Rand's philosophy of Objectivism is not something that applies to this debate.

Upon reflection, I, personally, do think that the new menu is successful in its intended goal to organize the clutter and it showcases the features of lichess well.

What I don't believe is that Isaiah, chunkymonkey, me, or any one individual is to be blamed for instigating this sort of "new vs old" backlash, as bbyd put it. I think we were targeted( especially Isaiah) simply because the mods couldn't target everybody who has had grievance about this change, as there were too many who did.

Which isn't to say that they wanted to accuse all the nay-sayers of being trolls, yet resorted to a few instead.

I can imagine that it hurt the feelings of those who work hard on this site to see so much negative feedback, even if it was expected. I don't think they expected so many to be against the change.

I never felt strongly either way about this change, as it's really not as revolutionary as it at first might seem.

They tidied up the menu.
I can't really comment on #84 and 85 since I'm not a mod, so I won't.

I will say that I stand firmly behind the things I've said about this new menu, and still insist that "going back" is not the option we need. Instead what I feel is we need people to give constructive ideas on how to either fix what's disliked.

That being said, while I do believe it is objectively (and yes, I still use that term here) a better design (because it isn't an Easter egg hunt for site pages) I actually DO believe that --while his new menu layout is great as a touch-screen interface-- there SHOULD be an option for a more standard sort of rollover drop menu or sitemap tree style menu for regular desktop users. This is something I apparently forgot to mention anywhere in this discussion.

I wanted to work on such a task, but I have found I just don't have time to play around with my outdated knowledge of CSS and such with the new school year starting here in Japan on Monday (meaning I have tons of meetings, welcoming events, and planning that I wasn't really expecting).
heh...typos abound; as usual when I go back to fix something, I break something else.

p2s2 should simply read: "Instead, I feel that we need people to give constructive ideas on how to fix what's disliked."
"there SHOULD be an option for a more standard sort of rollover drop menu or sitemap tree style menu for regular desktop users."

I've said the same thing a number of times.

I'm used to clicking on headers that expand right on the main page, probably because that's how almost all websites on the internet allow navigation.

This site used to have "main" headers that took you to a separate page with sub-headers, so navigation was more difficult than it should have been, but why can't the main page have headers (Play, Community, Tools, and Learn, perhaps) with their respective sub-headings accessible right there?

I'm not advocating that, but I'm sure it would be very well received.
how about everyone just accepts the ad free (and cost free) site that the kind developers have created for us (and they listen to everyones bs every single day) AND STFU. its small stuff, just let it go and enjoy what you have
